About

“The fate of thought depends and will depend for a long time between regret and assay“. Jean-Francois Lyotard, What is post-modernism?

Founded in 2007, Testing Grounds is a not-for-profit agency, based in the South East England.

The act of narration in Live Art, whether in verbal or visual forms, is the engine of the machine, but it can only be fuelled with diversion, unexpected outcomes and risk-taking. Testing Grounds supports experimentation in art and commissions artists to make new works to allow them to inhabit new territories, and to cut across art forms, mediums and contexts that are not usually explored together. This opens up possibilities of previously unexplored approaches to experiencing and interpreting the world both to the artists and the audiences.

We partner with a range of national and international venues to co-produce and co-curate the events, providing artists with in-depth curatorial support and mentoring. We are curating exciting performances and artists, at the same time we are creating a comfortable sociable and relaxed atmosphere. Thus this series of events is a social encounter as much as an experimental artistic event. The events also mix and blend audiences who have different artistic tastes, backgrounds and expectations.
